Ally McCoist blasts Hibs fan 'stupidity' as he admits Hearts derby has 'been marred'

Ally McCoist blasts fan 'stupidity' as he admits derby has 'been marred'

Legendary striker and pundit Ally McCoist has slammed Hibs fans after Hearts star Alex Cochrane was pelted with objects during the Edinburgh derby.

The former Brighton midfielder was hit by numerous chips, a plastic cup and even, more dangerously, a cigarette lighter near the Easter Road touchline during yesterday's powder keg fixture.

The game ended 1-1 after Martin Boyle equalised in the final minute to cancel out Lawrence Shankland's deft opener.

And McCoist wasn't in the mood to hold back, giving the Hibs faithful involved both barrels.

He told talkSPORT: "Listen, it never ceases to amaze me, the stupidity of some fans, throwing a cigarette lighter in particular man, that could take somebody's eye out or need stitches. It's a shame because it was a proper game yesterday, a good game.

"I think ( Hearts boss) Robbie Neilson will be a little bit more disappointed than the Hibs contingent because they seemed to dominate most of the game. They took a 1-0 lead through Lawrence Shankland then Hibs equalised literally - literally! - with the last kick of the ball through Martin Boyle.

"Robbie will be disappointed but at the same time it's just stupidity from these fans. And surely it's not that difficult to pick them out with the cameras that are at the game? Just go get them and ban them.

"Throwing things onto pitches, I thought we were by all that. It's a shame because Edinburgh derby is a proper derby, I've been to three or four in the last four or five years and I really do enjoy the atmosphere.

"It's a good, good game whether it's at Tynecastle or Easter Road. It's a shame it's been marred by that."
