A 30-year-old charged with stealing an $800 electric scooter after allegedly breaking into a home was identified by a fingerprint, police say.
The Moncrieff man is accused of breaking into a Bonner house and stealing the e-scooter on June 1, at about 1.30pm.
ACT Policing and Australian Federal Police Forensics identified the alleged thief through a fingerprint left at the scene.
Police said they found the 30-year-old lying in the back seat of a white Subaru Outback at 1.30am on Sunday morning during a routine traffic stop.
"Following a search of the man and his backpack, police located items including a knife, black gloves, a torch and scissors," they said.
"After confirming the man's identity, it was revealed he was the alleged offender identified from the fingerprint at the burglary in Bonner.
"The clothing the man was wearing also allegedly matched the clothing of the offender involved in the burglary.
"The man was placed under arrest and was transported to the ACT Watch House."
The man was charged with burglary and theft and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow on Monday, June 8.
