Allan Saint-Maximin's fitness update after 'minor setback' for Newcastle United winger

Allan Saint-Maximin has updated Newcastle United supporters on his injury comeback after posting a video on the treadmill this morning. The French winger has missed the Magpies last three Premier League fixtures against Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe's side have struggled to break the opposition down in the absence of Saint-Maximin and the Newcastle boss said it was "unclear" when the winger would return, despite a two-week international break. Speaking after the draw with Bournemouth, Howe said: “There's a massive hole for someone like Maxi in a game like this when you need a little magic to unlock the door."

Nonetheless, Newcastle's talisman sharing an encouraging video running on the treadmill this morning. The 25-year-old was dripping with sweat as he posted a video of a 10.85km cycle in the impressive time of 27.44 minutes.

The French winger picked up a hamstring injury in a defensive sprint against Wolverhampton Wanderers with the Newcastle boss claiming the injury wasn't a serious one. Speaking prior to the game against Palace at the beginning of the month, Howe said: "Again, they’re not serious injuries. There is no muscle pull with Allan, it’s more just a bit of swelling. We’re hopeful it won’t be too long.

"Whether or not he’ll be available for the next game at this moment I don’t know. But if not the next one, then definitely the one after."

Newcastle are waiting to see whether the winger will be back in contention against Fulham on October 1.
