Allan Saint-Maximin injury not serious as Eddie Howe prepares for late call against Brentford

Newcastle United will make a late call on Allan Saint-Maximin ahead of their trip to Brentford this weekend.

The winger missed the 1-1 draw at West Ham after suffering from a kick to his calf but Newcastle won't take any risks on the winger if they are not convinced he is 100% ready.

Although, it has to be stressed that the slight injury he is suffering from is not serious and Eddie Howe will give him as long as possible to be ready for selection.

Saint-Maximin's problem occurred after he was kicked in the calf against Aston Villa in the 1-0 win earlier this month.

The former Nice winger narrowly missed out on the clash in the capital at the London Stadium with Howe saying last weekend: "We hoped he’d be fit but obviously he didn’t make the game.

"Hopefully, nothing too serious with Maxi but it was enough to keep him out today."

Saint-Maximin and Ryan Fraser are both nursing knocks picked up in recent games but Howe will update fans tomorrow in his Press conference and after a day of assessment at Benton.

Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron are on standby to play at Brentford if needed.

Saint-Maximin was pictured training earlier in the week and was in good spirits.
