Allan McGregor makes stunning double penalty save in Rangers vs Napoli

Allan McGregor makes stunning double penalty save in Rangers vs Napoli clash

RANGERS keeper Allan McGregor made a stunning penalty save seconds after stopping an initial Napoli spot kick tonight.

The Serie A side were awarded a penalty after James Sands chopped down Giovanni Simeone inside the area.

He was booked for the foul, which saw the American sent off for two yellows in the match.

McGregor saved Piotr Zelenski's first tame penalty before Matteo Politano scored the rebound.

However, VAR found that the Napoli star had encroached on the box before the penalty was hit. So a re-take was ordered by referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz.

Zelenski stepped up once again, just moments after watching his first effort saved. And once again, he was stopped by the brilliant McGregor.

This time the ex-Scotland No.1 cleared the ball far away from any danger, as the Ibrox crowd erupted in song, chanting McGregor's name.

A small period of time went by as Napoli, with their man advantage, continued to apply pressure.

And it would be a case of third time lucky, as the Italian's got a third spot kick with Borna Barisic penalised for handball.

Politano did strike home on this occasion, though, beating McGregor down low to his left.
