All the shows you can see at Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival this summer

It can be hard to beat a trip to the theatre and the Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival means you can combine enjoying the sunshine and watching live theatre. Now Wales' largest outdoor theatrical event is returning for 2023 and hosting a variety of different shows.

From The Addams Family to Calendar Girls and Macbeth there is something for everyone when Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival is at Sophia Gardens for six weeks from Thursday, June 22 to Saturday, July 29.

The core programme will compromise of the cult musical The Addams Family, a heart-warming film adaptation of Calendar Girls, classic Shakespeare favourite A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the hit musical sensation Matilda Jr. There will also be a sheep-themed family show, a choirs night, a stand-up comedy evening in association with Amnesty International, a youth production of Macbeth and a late-night screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show to fill out the rest of the programme.

The pop-up theatre has 400 seats and they are all undercover, meaning audiences will stay dry whatever the weather. The Festival courtyard also has a fully licensed bar, which opens an hour before each performance. You can keep up to date with the latest What's On news by signing up to the newsletter here.

This year, the Festival is supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association. The Festival is organised and managed entirely by volunteers through Everyman Theatre Cardiff and first began in 1983.
