All the planned M4 closures in Newport and Cardiff from March 7

Several parts of the M4 will be impacted by road closures this week.

A number of overnight closures will be in place this week beginning Monday, March 7, affecting people around Newport, Cardiff and other areas in south Wales. This is in order to carry out maintenance work.

Motorists and those intending to travel late at night or early in the morning are being advised to plan ahead and find alternative routes.

Here are the planned road closures along the M4 this week.

  • M4 eastbound, junction 24: The M4 eastbound at junction 24 Coldra is closed between 8pm and 6am until Friday, March 11. This is in order for roadworks to take place.
  • A48 eastbound to M4 junction 49: The A48 eastbound is closed from Cross Hands to the M4 junction 49 Pont Abraham until Sunday, March 27. This is in order to carry out maintenance work on the carriageway. The closure, which began on February 14, is in place between 7pm and 3am every day. The road is closed in both directions going the opposite way, from Pont Abraham to Cross Hands, at the same times until the same date.
  • M48 westbound junction 1: The M48 westbound between the M4 and junction 1 is shut from Tuesday, March 8 until March 23 between 9.01pm and 6am. This is in order to carry out roadworks.
  • M4 westbound junctions 20 to 22: The M4 westbound between junctions 20 and 22 will be closed from Tuesday, March 8 until March 23 between 9.01pm and 6am to carry out roadworks. This will affect the road westbound between both junctions and the entry slip at junction 20.
  • M48 junctions 1 and 2: The M48 eastbound between junctions 1 and 2 faces a number of disruptions this week. It will be closed between 9pm and 6am until Wednesday, March 9 due to roadworks and repairing of emergency barrier repairs.
