A series of weather warnings have been issued across the UK as the country braces for snow to come from the north.
Northern parts of England, including Greater Manchester, have been issued a yellow weather warning for snow from 7am on Thursday to 2pm on Friday. It means there is a risk that heavy snow will cause disruptions to roads, rail, and air travel.
Meanwhile, some rural communities could become cut off, according to the Met Office, while power cuts may result in services such as mobile phone coverage becoming unavailable for a short time. Similarly, Northern Ireland will have a yellow warning for snow from 7am on Thursday to 2pm on Friday.

Many parts of the Midlands and South of England have similarly been hit by a yellow warning for ice and snow which came into effect from today (March 8) and will remain in place until 7am on Thursday. Areas affected such as Birmingham, Norwich, Cardiff, and Oxford will see a higher risk of injury from slips and falls on snow-covered or icy surfaces.
The Scottish Highlands have also been issued a similar snow and ice warning from 6pm today to 10am tomorrow.
Chief meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, said: "Snow, ice and low temperatures are the main themes of this week’s forecast, with the UK under an Arctic maritime air mass. Snow could lead to some travel disruption, with a chance some rural communities in the north could be cut off.
"“The focus for the snow moves to southern England and South Wales tomorrow and some may wake up to a few centimetres of snow, with the south coast and far south-west likely to see a mix of rain and sleet. Further snow and hail showers are also expected along northern coasts, especially in northern Scotland.”
He added: “During the afternoon, a further spell of sleet and snow is likely to develop across southern England and South Wales which could cause travel disruption into the evening. The impact of lying snow and ice on untreated surfaces may have an impact on Thursday morning travel.”
