As the cricketing world gears up for crucial tournaments, Shami’s preparations send a strong message to the selectors as he’s ready to make an international comeback in the upcoming white-ball home series against England followed by the crucial 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after a long injury layoff.

Shami posted a video of his practice session on social media platform X, captioning it: "Precision, Pace, and Passion, All Set to Take on the World!"

Shami, recovering from ankle surgery after the 2023 ODI World Cup Final, showcased his fitness with appearances in Ranji Trophy ahead of the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, which India lost 1-3. However, knee swelling later emerged, prompting the BCCI medical team to rule him out before the fourth Test in Melbourne.

Speaking on The ICC Review, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri criticised the lack of transparency surrounding Shami's fitness and recovery timeline. He argued that retaining the experienced pacer with the squad in Australia might have been a more effective strategy, ensuring better monitoring and management of his rehabilitation process.

"Why can't proper communication come out on where he stands? A player of his ability, I would have brought him to Australia," Shastri remarked. "I would have kept him part of the team, monitored him with the best physios, and made a decision after the third Test if he could play."
