All-Ireland SFC 2023 fixture guide as new group format for the Sam Maguire Cup begins

The new All-Ireland Senior Football Championship format begins this weekend with the last four All-Ireland finalists in action.

Ultimately, 24 games will take place over three rounds of fixtures between Saturday, May 20 and the weekend of June 17/18 with just four teams being eliminated from the All-Ireland series.

The new structure has drawn some criticism, but there won’t be many dead rubber games in the final round with preliminary quarter-final places up for grabs for the second and third placed teams in each group.

The four winners will go straight through to the quarter-finals and will get extra-time to prepare for the knock-out stage of the competition.

The All-Ireland SFC final is scheduled for Sunday, July 30 at Croke Park.

Tyrone begin with a trip to face Galway on Saturday evening in Pearse Stadium while beaten Ulster finalists Armagh start their Group Two campaign by hosting last year’s Tailteann Cup winners Westmeath at the Box-It Athletic Grounds on Saturday week.

Donegal will be keen to put their recent woes behind them, but are under pressure to make a winning start to Group Four when they face Clare in Ennis on Saturday.

Ulster champions Derry host Monaghan in the same group next Saturday night in Celtic Park while defending champions Kerry are in action this weekend as they welcome Mayo to Killarney on Saturday.
