Twenty-one years after her father Pullela Gopichand claimed the title at the All England Championships, his daughter Gayatri won her first match along with Treesa Jolly in Birmingham on Wednesday.
Gayatri-Treesa will join PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and the men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in the second round of the BWF Super 1000 event. While Sindhu downed Wang Zhi Yi of China 21-18, 21-13, Saina defeated Beatriz Corrales of Spain 21-17, 21-19.
