All candidates for Illinois House of Representatives District 76 Republican primary complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the March 19, 2024, Republican primary for Illinois House of Representatives District 76 — Liz Bishop (R) and Crystal Loughran (R) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Bishop:

  • “Illinois needs to thrive economically to preserve the freedoms we all value. We must get property taxes under control, lower inflation and bring down the cost of living for families. I would start by working to limit unfunded mandates that push costs down to the counties which then increase property taxes to pay for them. If we can get property taxes under control, we can lower inflation & the cost of living for families.
  • I will fight for affordable, accessible healthcare. The recent closings of two hospitals in our district have taught us some very hard lessons. I will support legislation to address healthcare disparities, and I will fight to ensure that our community’s healthcare needs are met.
  • Illinoisans need to be able to afford electricity bills. With the ban on the construction of nuclear power plants recently lifted, we have an opportunity to have affordable energy and the good paying jobs that will accompany it. We must also support wind and solar so that there is balance in the energy sector.”

Loughran:

  • “I will be your Grassroots candidate who continues to advocate tirelessly for exposing the teaching of Critical Race Theory, Social Emotional Learning – SEL, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – DEI, and preventing the Governor from passing new legislation to include the teaching of explicit Sex Ed in neighborhood schools. Local Government, Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois Universities, and Illinois Community Colleges are the catalysts for disseminating the far-left woke liberal policies. Most importantly, this includes teaching transgender sexuality ideologies to our naïve young children.
  • ILLINOIS CORRUPTION: Illinois is the first in the nation for public corruption. We need a public integrity Police investigative unit to investigate crooked politicians. We need stiffer penalties for corruption. We need to restructure our laws to trim donations from certain donors and lobbyists. We need more transparency in politicians’ funding including them reporting how much they make including salaries,
  • FARMS: Illinois biggest crops are corn and soybeans. Farmers are under threat over climate change. Farm lands want to be used for solar and wind farms. 30% of farms are dedicated to the production of ethanol for fuel. 50% is dedicated to trade. We need to fight the green deal. If the Democrats succeed. Thousands of farms will shut down including their support such as refineries, truck drivers, gas stations. We need to protect and reinvest in farms for more output not less. It’s a valuable commodity.”

We ask all federal, state, and local candidates with profiles on Ballotpedia to complete a survey and share what motivates them on political and personal levels. Ask the candidates in your area to fill out the survey.
