Alistair Johnston has quite literally run himself into the spotlight for club and country - so Celtic will just be another lap on his accelerated development path at full-back.
He's not been there for long but the right-sided defender is anticipated to become Ange Postecoglou's second signing of the winter window after impressive performances in the MLS with Montreal were taken into World Cup territory with Canada. His development path hasn't been a usual one, going from a talented cross-country runner into a box-to-box central midfielder.
It was only a couple of years ago where he transitioned into the right-back role Celtic have identified him for, but that will suit the 24-year-old to a tee, with Postecoglou keen on his full-backs playing inverted. Johnston's first senior club, Vaughan Soccer Club, have brought through players like the talented defensive player and national teammate Kamal Miller, filling head coach Patrice Gheisar with plenty of pride. Johnston left the League 1 Ontario men's team in 2019 for Nashville and he hasn't looked back since moving to America's elite division.
