Alistair Johnston handed Celtic 'leader' status as former Parkhead star tells fans what to expect

Alistair Johnston is a future leader at Celtic claims the former Parkhead player who sold him on a move to Glasgow.

The new Canadian defender will join up with Ange Postecoglou's squad next month after penning a five-year deal with the Hoops that saw the World Cup star seal a dream move to the Scottish champions. Johnston becomes Postecoglou's second recruit of the winter window, aligning with defensive teammate Yuki Kobayashi who also signed on the dotted line for five years.

Johnston wasn't shy in hiding his desire to make the big move, and previously revealed that Hoops cult hero Victor Wanyama - who he played with at CF Montreal - sold him on the switch to Celtic. Now the Kenyan has insisted that Celtic fans will see the best from the defender due to one key factor.

He told the Athletic: "I told him about how big a club Celtic is and how amazing the fans are. I told him that the fans are demanding, but they will always have your back.

"He is very professional and well-educated. He loves reading books and engaging in conversation. I see him as a future leader. He can run for days. He was always up and down the right demanding the ball from me, so that’s how I recognise him — energy."
