Alisson breaks silence on heated row with Jordan Henderson during Liverpool draw at Chelsea

Alisson Becker has shut down suggestions of a rift between him and Jordan Henderson after they clashed during Liverpool’s draw with Chelsea.

Just days after being beaten 4-1 by Manchester City at the Etihad, the Reds were held to a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge. The stalemate was a further blow to the club’s Champions League hopes.

But during the closing stages of the match, a poor headed clearance from Joel Matip presented Chelsea’s Joao Felix with a chance, but the on-loan forward failed to control his effort and fired well over.

However, in the immediate aftermath of that incident, a furious Henderson confronted Alisson, as the Liverpool captain appeared to accuse his goalkeeper of not communicating with Matip.

The Brazilian responded angrily and the pair were briefly in each other’s faces before Henderson walked away. But speaking following the game, Alisson dismissed having any kind of problems with his skipper.

“Me and Henderson, we are two people who fight, who give our lives for their team,” he told ESPN Brasil. “And on the field there is no way to ask 'please'.

“So sometimes it seems that the mood is high, but it’s two people trying to fix it, do things in the best way for the team and try to help.”

Liverpool currently sit eighth in the Premier League table, and although admitting his side have endured a 'difficult' campaign so far, Alisson is hopeful Liverpool can return to their best.

He said: “Of course it’s been difficult, it’s been a great challenge. We are human beings and we feel as much as anyone else. We get frustrated when something negative happens.

“We rejoice when we are well. But football, the difference is that we can’t spend a long time lamenting because that’s the good side of football.

“When things are going badly, two, three days after a match that the team doesn’t play well, there’s already an opportunity that can show again. So that’s our challenge this season. Each game will show our real quality and play together as a team.”
