Alison Hammond has admitted she thought she heard her name called as winner of Best Presenter at the National Television Awards, over Ant and Dec, before being left mortified at realising the Geordie duo had triumphed once again.
The Best Presenter accolade at the annual event has gone home with Ant and Dec for over two decades now, thanks to their jobs on the likes of Pop Idol, Britain's Got Talent, I'm A Celebrity and Saturday Night Takeaway. The lads couldn't actually be at the NTAs in London on Thursday, after both testing positive for Covid, but they were victorious once again, seeing off competition from This Morning star Alison, Graham Norton and The Chase host Bradley Walsh.
To viewers at home, it looked like Alison took defeat in her stride, but, in a candid confession at the start of Friday's This Morning, she revealed she actually thought she'd won after becoming convinced she'd heard her name. Speaking to co-host Dermot in the opening moments of the show, she said: "I’ll be honest with you, you were the funniest partner, you sat next to me all yesterday and you just made me laugh throughout the whole show.

"But the funniest moment was - obviously I was up for an award - and I heard ‘Ant and Dec’ being called but I heard ‘Alison’. In my head, I heard ‘Alison’."
Elaborating, she added: "So I reached across to Dermot and said 'how did they say Alison?' and Dermot went: 'No, they didn't say Alison. It was so shameful. I wasn't joking. I was like 'Did they say Alison babes? And you said no."
Alison did declare she 'should have won' over Ant and Dec when This Morning accepted the Best Daytime accolade later on in the ceremony. Taking to the mic, he shouted: "This Morning is a mood...but let's be honest I should have won one of these, as cheers sounded out around the room.
