A man who escaped from a Northern Territory prison and fled into the outback on foot has been captured.
The 30-year-old broke out of a low security compound at the Alice Springs Correctional Facility about 2.30am on Thursday.
He's alleged to have fled into the night, triggering a large scale search involving police and dogs.
Officers found him 45km south of Alice Springs about 1pm on the Stuart Highway and took him into custody.
"The prisoner was not deemed to be a risk to the general public and our officers deployed swiftly to ensure he was remanded back into custody," Assistant Police Commissioner Martin Dole said.
