Aston Villa have have reportedly joined the race for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos while Spanish side Sevilla appear to be leading the pursuit of the frontman.
The Ibrox talisman and the club have a decision to make after Morelos entered the final year of his contract and is yet to agree an extension, having last penned a new deal back in March 2019. Sevilla have been credited with an interest in the past and Spanish media they have already kickstarted a summer bidding war with an offer in the region of £7million.
While Rangers chiefs rejected claims that an offer was tabled, Spanish outlets have continued to insist that the La Liga side are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old. A report has now added Villa to a list of potential suitors with Steven Gerrard seemingly keen on a reunion with Morelos in the English Premier League next season. Estadio Deportivo state Sevilla will be rivalled by Villa and Gerrard "wants him for his Aston Villa" next season.
The Spanish outlet state the former Rangers boss has "put himself in Sevilla's path" over a deal. Morelos missed the final stages of last season - including the Europa League and Scottish Cup Finals - after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury. However, he has shown he is back on track to fitness with clips posted to social media from pre-season training.
Before the knock, the forward looked to be back to his best under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Rangers are reportedly keen on extending his deal beyond next season.
