Confident Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst believes talisman Alfredo Morelos is closing in on a long-term Ibrox contract.
The 26-year-old has one year remaining on his current deal but has held "very positive" talks over penning a fresh deal to remain with the Europa League finalists. Morelos has been absent since April after a suffering a thigh injury which needed surgery. But it now appears the Colombia international is closing in a long-term commitment after returning to training. Morelos is Rangers' record goalscorer in Europe and is adored by the club's support. And now the Dutchman reckons his talisman is on the verge of handing the Scottish Cup winners a major boost ahead of the Champions League qualifier with Union Saint-Gilloise.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Van Bronckhorst said: "When he’s fit, he is one option for me. Up front as well we all knows his qualities. I’d rather have him back.
"The other issue he has is the contract he has. But he’s very positive about signing a new contract. We are doing our best to get Morelos to sign a new contract. Hopefully, in the next coming weeks we’ll sort it all out but still the talks are on-going."
