Alfredo Morelos handed Rangers transfer warning as Marco Negri reveals regrets over Ibrox exit

Marco Negri has revealed his regrets over leaving Rangers while describing his time in Glasgow with the Ibrox club as the 'absolutely high point of his career'.

And he has also warned Alfredo Morelos not to think about departing the Light Blues because he'll rue his decision over a longer period of time.

The fans' favourite is entering the final 12 months of his current contract and has been linked with moves away from Glasgow if he doesn't put pen to paper on extended terms.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst faces some tough decisions this summer with Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack also in the final year of contracts. Morelos rediscovered his best form under the Dutchman before a season-ending thigh injury that ruled him out of the title run-in with Celtic, Scottish Cup Final and the road to the Europa League Final in Seville.

Negri is a huge fan of the hitman and believes he was terribly missed from the Rangers team towards the end of last season.

He also reckons the Europa League trophy could have made its way back to Scotland had he been fit to face Frankfurt.

He told the Daily Record : “Looking back I can say I made a few mistakes, I have some regrets but a lot of joy and great memories.

“Playing for Rangers was absolutely the highest point of my career - and I’m sure Alfredo will say the same when he finally retires.

“The club cannot afford to lose a big player like Morelos on a free transfer. But Alfredo has to realise what is the best for his development.

“Sometimes players can think other clubs are better. But if you are settled in a city, loved by millions of fans, get on with your team-mates and play for one of the most successful clubs in the world, I don’t think a striker can want more.

“I really hope Morelos will stay and deliver more goals and trophies for Rangers. I really like him. I think he was the man the team missed so much at the end of the season. Without him Rangers lost a lot of power up front.

“If Alfredo had been on the pitch, the Europa League final in Seville might have gone another way.”
