Alexis Mac Allister's dad set to finalise transfer plan after private talks admission

Alexis Mac Allister's father is due to fly into the UK next week as the Brighton midfielder edges closer to a blockbuster transfer to Liverpool.

Mac Allister, 24, has become one of the Premier League's most sought-after players after impressing for the Seagulls and playing a major role in Argentina's stunning World Cup triumph midway through the season.

A host of clubs have been extensively linked with the £60million-rated midfield maestro, including the Reds and Manchester City. And Mac Allister fuelled speculation that he could be on the move with his post-match actions following Brighton's 1-1 draw with City in midweek - the Seagulls' final home game of the season.

Now TyC Sports are claiming that Mac Allister's father, who is also his son's agent, is flying into the UK next week to conclude the formalities of a switch to Liverpool, which the report states is at an 'advanced stage'.

While Anfield is now being touted as Mac Allister's most likely destination, numerous clubs have been credited with an interest in his services since the World Cup, where the midfield maestro emerged as an unlikely star.

And Mac Allister senior revealed to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, via Inside Futbol, back in December that he had already fielded calls from prospective suitors. He said "I can only say that together with the club we will analyse the offers we will receive and then we will decide what will happen with Alexis' future.

"He is doing very well in England and is grateful to Brighton as they gave him the chance to come to Europe. However, neither can we provide a price nor can we say who called us. We don’t want to give any information that could prejudice imminent negotiations if any."

Sealing a swift deal for Mac Allister would be regarded as a major coup for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, who have plenty of work ahead of them this summer if they are to ensure the Reds are in a position to challenge for the Premier League title next term.

Despite finishing the campaign strongly, Liverpool have plans to revamp their squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign; including a much-needed midfield overhaul.

As well as Mac Allister, the Reds have also been linked with his Seagulls teammate Moises Caicedo and Bayern Munich playmaker Ryan Gravenberch.

Mason Mount has also been touted as a Liverpool target in the wake of his contract stand-off with Chelsea, however, reports earlier this week claimed that the Blues academy graduate would favour a move to Manchester United if he does leave Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
