Alexis Mac Allister linked with switching Premier League clubs after sparkling World Cup

Tottenham are among a clutch of teams considering a move for Brighton and Argentina playmaker Alexis Mac Allister, according to reporters.

The midfielder caught the eye for the Seagulls in the first half of the Premier League campaign as his impressive form earned him a spot in his country’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar. The 23-year-old’s displays have carried over into the tournament.

He has started five of Argentina's six matches in Qatar - the only match he missed out on being their group opener against Saudi Arabia, a game which the South American side lost. Mac Allister also managed to get on the scoresheet in their final Group C clash with Poland.

His displays have been enough to attract admiring glances from top-flight rivals. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are among the clubs to have been keeping an eye on his performances, with manager Antonio Conte keen to add a more creative midfielder to his squad.

Managing director Fabio Paratici is said to be ready to approve a swoop for the Brighton playmaker. However, the north Londoners face competition for his signature, with a number of European clubs also interested.

As per the report, Italian pair Inter Milan and Juventus are also admirers of the Argentine, whilst Atletico Madrid are noted as admirers. A deal could prove hard to strike for the player's many suitors, however.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is unlikely to want to lose one of his star performers. Mac Allister also only recently committed his future to the Seagulls with an extended contract that is set to run until the summer of 2025, with the option of a further year.

Speaking after signing his new contract, the midfielder said: “We’ve been discussing a new contract for a few weeks, and I’m very happy it’s all agreed and signed.

“I am really happy here at Brighton. I’m grateful for the opportunity the club gave me to come to England and play in the Premier League, and it’s been an incredible journey.

“We have made great progress with Graham Potter, and I know there is more to make. I am now enjoying working with another top coach in Roberto De Zerbi and want to help the club to keep progressing.”

Mac Allister, a 13-time Argentina international, joined Brighton from South American giants Boca Juniors back in 2020. He has gone on to make 86 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring 13 goals.

His best performances have come this season, with five goals in 14 Premier League appearances - already the joint-most prolific campaign of his career in England. He will be hoping to claim a World Cup winners’ medal ahead of returning to the AMEX Stadium later this month. Argentina reached the final in Qatar with a 3-0 victory over Croatia and will take on either France or Morocco on Sunday.
