Alexandra Burke breaks down as she shares reason for keeping baby's name and gender a secret

Singer Alexandra Burke broke down in tears whilst appearing on ITV's Loose Women on Monday, October 10. The star, who found fame on The X Factor, was talking about why she has chosen not to reveal her baby's name or gender.

Sitting down with Ruth Langsford, Katie Piper, Janet Street Porter and Jane Moore, Alexandra said: “Obviously I come from X Factor and that’s a public show, I’m very grateful for the platform that’s made me who I am today. But in the process, I hate getting emotional talking about this, but in the process of me being who I am I asked for all this but my family never.”

She added: “The impact on them is hard. They never asked for it, I asked for it. I want to protect the baby as much as I can and let the baby make its own decision. Even when I spoke to my friends about it, I was like, ‘I don’t want to hurt anyone in the process of who I am and the life that I’ve chosen so I’m protecting.”

Alexandra is in a relationship with footballer Darren Randolph. In February, the singer, 34, announced that they were expecting a baby, who was born in June 2022.

Regarding her newborn, the singer said: "Oh gosh, how life has changed. Sleep is a thing of the past. It's changed in a brilliant way. I've never known love like this before. I'm the happiest I've ever been."

Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV
