Alexa down, users get error messages from Amazon devices

Alexa smart home devices went down across parts of the UK this morning with users getting error messages.

Users reported solid blue lights and error messages on their devices, which failed to respond to requests.

The devices failed to show up on the Alexa app, leaving users unable to determine what is wrong.

Problems started to be reported across the UK at around 8am.

An Amazon spokesman said: "This morning we had an issue that impacted some Alexa customers’ ability to interact with the service. The Alexa service is now operating normally."

Service monitoring site DownDetector saw 8,000 people complaining about a loss of Alexa services within a few minutes.

User Steve tweeted: "Been screaming at my Alexa to play music for 15 minutes only to find out the service is down"

User Karl added: "Do you know you suffer from first world problems when because #Alexa is down you have to physically turn on your light switch"
