Having lost his grandmother to breast cancer just before his mother's diagnosis, Verdugo faced emotional challenges last year. He expressed admiration for his mother's strength and resilience throughout their family's ordeal.

Thankfully, his mother is now cancer-free and undergoing treatment. Verdugo plans to gift her the special chain once she completes her treatment, as a symbol of her victory over the disease.

Despite the adjustments to his style and the challenges he has faced off the field, Verdugo remains focused on his performance on the field.
