Alex Salmond to speak at rally responding to Supreme Court's indyref2 verdict

ALEX Salmond is a confirmed speaker at one of the 15 rallies across Scotland being held in reaction to the Supreme Court verdict on a bid for indyref2.

The former first minister will be speaking in Inverurie at the Inverurie Town Hall at 5:30pm on Wednesday evening.

The rally is organised by Garioch Women for Change, as part of the nationwide independence effort to show the world Scotland’s raw reaction to the Supreme Court judgment, no matter the decision.

Alba Party leader Alex Salmond said: “I am delighted to accept the invitation to address Garioch Women for Change, one of the grassroots groups who are the heart and soul of the independence movement.

“Scotland’s future must be in Scotland’s hands. Regardless of the outcome of the Supreme Court, to regain our independence we must bring the people with us in Scotland and end the mentality that goes cap in hand for London’s permission to regain our freedom.

"Tomorrow must be the starting gun of a campaign that ups the ante on independence across Scotland by asserting our right of self-determination.

“Enough is enough. It is time to deliver independence.”

MPs and MSPs from all pro-independence parties have been invited to speak at any of their local rallies.

At the main rally in Edinburgh, SNP MP Tommy Sheppard and Alba MP Neale Hanvey will speak to the expected crowd of 5000 or more.

Independence campaigners Selma Rahman, Colin Fox and Iain Black will also speak to the crowd at Holyrood.

Time for Scotland – which has been set up to co-ordinate the rallies – is hopeful of a big-name speaker from the Scottish Government, too.
