Alex Murdaugh cries as court shown video from dog kennels before murders
Alex Murdaugh’s former best friend of 40 years broke down in tears in court on Thursday as he described the moment that he learned he had stolen millions of dollars from law firm clients – and $192,000 from himself.
Chris Wilson choked back emotion as he said “it knocked me down” and revealed that “I don’t know how to think any more” about the man he had known most of his life.
“I was so mad. I had loved the guy for so long, and I probably still loved him a little bit, but I was so mad, and I don’t remember how it ended,” he said.
Mr Murdaugh is on trial for the murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul.
Separately, he is facing around 100 charges for stealing almost $8.5m from clients at his former law firm PMPED.
The prosecution and the defence are arguing over the admission of evidence of the alleged financial crimes and so testimony is taking place without jurors present.
Prosecutors claim the financial crimes were a motive for the murders of Maggie and Paul.
