Alex Lowry Rangers injury update as 'positive' news emerges but B team boss offers one caveat

David McCallum says things are looking 'positive' for Alex Lowry as he continues his recovery from injury. But the Rangers B boss has stopped short of laying out a return timeline for the youngster.

Lowry was on the receiving end of a horrific challenge from Ally Love in the Rangers B-team's win over Dumbarton last month. Despite initial fears it would keep him on the sidelines for months, the prognosis wasn't quite as bad, with Lowry expected to be out for around six weeks.

It was nonetheless a hammer blow for the 19-year-old who exploded onto the first-team scene last season and had been tipped to take up a major role under Gio van Bronckhorst this season. He'll have to wait patiently for his next senior chance, but McCallum reckons things are looking optimistic - even if it's too early to be speculating over dates.

He said: "He is progressing well. He is obviously not back on the football pitch yet and not back in contention for any game time at the moment. But any time I have seen him or had conversations about him, it seems to be quite positive just now.

"I think when he got the initial feedback that the injury wasn’t going to be as long-term as what we initially thought, I think naturally Alex felt a bit better about that because he could see a bit of brightness ahead. But in terms of that, I don’t have any more on that that I am able to share just now."
