Alex Jones says farewell to The One Show as she takes long break from TV

Alex Jones has revealed she is taking a month long break from presenting The One Show.

The 45-year-old took to social media last night and announced the news alongside a snap of her and co-host Jermaine Jenas on the famous green couch. She captioned the post: "And that is a wrap till the end of August."

Fans of the show will be gutted not to get their One Show fix as it makes way for coverage of the Commonwealth Games, which gets underway on Thursday. On their last show for the summer, the duo were joined by Lenny Henry and Tom Daley in Birmingham as the city gets ready to host the sporting event which will see the world's best athletes compete.

And as the episode came to a close, Alex told viewers they were taking a "summer break" until August 22. She continued to say: "Stay safe and have a lovely summer."

The closing segment was also shared across the show's social media pages, with a number of Twitter users telling the pair to enjoy their break. One user wrote: "Have a great holiday guys," while another penned: "Yes have a wonderful summer and enjoy."

News of the break comes after Alex recently opened up on Instagram about the "challenging" times she had been facing at home. She admitted earlier in the week that she's going through "a tricky and challenging patch in her life".

The presenter, who is mum to Teddy, Annie and Kit with husband Charlie Thompson, shared a snap of a lemon and thanked her followers for the kind messages she had received.

She wrote: "Things have been a bit tricky for us recently and in all honesty, I haven’t had time to be on here between working and the children but I randomly logged on and saw all your lovely messages gently asking if we were all ok.

"I was touched by your kindness and so I just wanted to check in and say thank you, and that even though life has been a bit challenging, we are ok and still managing to enjoy the beginning of the holidays and there’s still plenty to smile about! (I’ll pop some stuff on my stories) "#whenlifegivesyoulemons #thekindnessofstrangers."

Alex and Jermaine will return to The One Show on August 22 (BBC)

She was quickly inundated with more positive messages from pals and fans alike, including one from Zoe Ball, who wrote: "Big love atcha beauty."
