The judge who jailed disgraced DJ Alex Belfield referred to a number of witnesses who said he had “weaponised the internet” - which the judge found to be "a wholly apt description of your conduct". The ex-BBC Radio Leeds presenter was convicted on stalking charges on August 5 this year after a five-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
The charges he was found guilty on included stalking Bernard Spedding - known professionally as Bernie Keith - of BBC Radio Northampton, and the stalking had caused him serious alarm or distress. He was also convicted of stalking Ben Hewis, also causing him serious alarm or distress.
These were the more serious form of aggravated stalking, because they caused his victims serious alarm or distress, the court heard on Friday (September 16). The final two charges concerning stalking Philip Dehany, and the stalking of popular presenter Jeremy Vine reflected the less serious form of stalking under the law.
