Alesha Dixon's fallout with Mis-Teeq as she wows Eurovision fans with surprise rap

Alesha Dixon gave fans a blast from the past last night when she burst into a rap during the Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals.

The Britain's Got Talent judge, 44, was chatting to contestants who had already performed their songs when she showed off her own musical skills on TV.

Alesha, who rose to fame as one third of garage group Mis-Teeq, name-checked Greta Thunburg and last year's Eurovision champions Kalush as she spat a few bars live from Liverpool, leaving BBC viewers divided over the surprise rap.

But fans hoping the Eurovision presenter's homage to her musical roots last night could lead to a Mis-Teeq reunion will be bitterly disappointed.

Alesha, alongside Su-Elise Nash and Sabrina Washington, brought one of the most distinct sounds of the noughties pop as members of chart-topping girlband Mis-Teeq.

But while pop bands from yesteryear like Blue and Steps have all reformed after previously splitting, the Mis-Teeq ladies don't appear to be on the best of terms these days.

In January 2021, just three months before the 20th anniversary of Mis-Teeq's debut hit why, it was revealed bandmate Sabrina Washington was planning to sue Alesha and former record label Universal over royalties.

It was alleged that Alesha had 'wrongfully' claimed royalties from Mis-Teeq's first singles (which representatives for the star denied) with Sabrina reportedly trying to get back some of the cash.

A spokesman for Sabrina said at the time: "We are unable to comment on ongoing legal proceedings."

While a representative for Alesha told Mirror Online: "My only comment on this is that there is no truth in the matter whatsoever."

The controversy was by no means the first tension to bubble up between the bandmembers - with Sabrina previously hitting out at Alesha by saying she "should have stuck to MC-ing because her voice isn't that strong."

Back in 2008, I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! star Sabrina lashed out at her former bandmate's singing voice and her career choices after Mis-Teeq disbanded.

After four years together as a trio, Mis-Teeq released a greatest hits album on 25 April 2005 to coincide with their separation, with Alesha going on to sign a £500,000, solo three-album deal with Polydor Records.

The former Strictly Come Dancing judge enjoyed some chart success with solo efforts like The Boy Does Nothing in 2008 and Breathe Slow the following year, but her last album in 2015, Do It For Love, peaked at 81 in the UK charts.

"A lot of people say Alesha should have stuck to MC-ing because her voice isn't that strong and I agree. I did a lot of the work in Mis-Teeq," Alesha's former bandmate Sabrina swiped in 2008.

Sabrina also branded her time in the band 'bittersweet', recalling how she was told she was "too dark to be on any covers" and that "black women don’t sell magazines."

Last year, Alesha ruled out any chance of a Mis-Teeq reunion and instead announced her plans for more solo music.

"I'm exhausted, I'm not gonna lie. I've got new music coming. Music is what I do, it's something that I love," she confessed during an appearance on This Morning.

"I don't call it a comeback. In 2023 I'm gonna make it a priority. I'll put something out, probably around April or May. It's a passion project. And I'm independent now so there's no pressure."

She added: "There won't be a Mis-Teeq reunion anytime soon. I caught up with Su-Elise in Australia. She lives there now. Our babies were playing together. The Mis-Teeq babies!"

But Alesha did treat fans of her MC skills to a little rap on Tuesday night, as she hosted the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

She kicked it off by rapping: "Eurovision is back, we are in the UK.

"In 2022, Kalush took the gold. The first rap group to win, yeah, they broke the mould. So raise your pink bucket hats in the air, I have got a Eurovision story that I really wanna share."

Alesha continued: "Listen, Liverpool, let me hit you with the facts and I'll talk you through some really iconic acts.

"Greta Thunburg's mum in 2009, San Marino's Valentina performed four times, in the city of Kyiv, Sobral swept the board with the most points in history a contestant ever scored. Dana and Conchita, yeah, they really changed the game.

"Lordi and Maneskin, they put rock in the frame. As our souls reunite are you ready for a show? We're united by music, Eurovision let's go!"

The Britain's Got Talent judge was flooded with praise for her rap, with one saying: "Why is this rap bit better than the competitors."
