Former Manchester City full-back Aleksandr Kolarov has claimed he is not surprised by how well Joao Cancelo has played on the whole for his old club.
Cancelo enjoyed a breakout season for the Blues last year and managed to secure himself as a first-team regular at left back with Kyle Walker commanding operations on the opposite flank. Pep Guardiola has continued to trust the 28-year-old in the 2022/23 campaign and the Portuguese star has rewarded his boss.
With two goals and five assists so far, Cancelo has been in mainly sparkling form. However, he suffered a blip on Sunday as his error against Liverpool would ultimately end up costing his team at Anfield.

But, speaking to City's official website, Kolarov praised the full-back. "It was quite clear from the beginning that Cancelo was going to be very successful with Manchester City because he is first choice in his position and he is increasing his levels every season," he explained.
"He is a great footballer, and he can play on the right or the left. In fact, he is more dangerous on the left because he can cut in on the right and he has great vision, and he is often more like a midfielder.
"He is well-suited to Pep's style of play." Cancelo may well be looking to redeem himself on Saturday when the Blues return to action against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium.
City are four points behind leaders Arsenal and will be well aware that a victory will mount pressure on Mikel Arteta's men who have to wait until Sunday to compete this matchday.
