Aldi have unveiled their 2022 Christmas advert - inspired by an iconic festive movie.
The supermarket have revealed their advert to mark the 2022 festive season, and after the teaser showed Kevin the carrot stuck at the airport whilst his family - Katie, Baby, Jasper and Chantenay - were already on the plane to spend the festive season in Paris. The Christmas teaser was unveiled earlier this month, with Katie launching a bid to 'find Kevin.
The new advert begins where the teaser left off, as Katie and family rush through the airport to make their Paris flight. However, one of the kids stops their mum and asks if they can donate their pocket money to giving platform, neighbourly.
As they buckle up in their seat on board, Katie suddenly realises someone is missing, as a voiceover shares: "Christmas in Paris, a family vacation. But wasn't someone missing from this festive celebration?"
Meanwhile, home alone in his huge house, Kevin has his feet up as he watches a football on his phone whilst an unknown intruder stalks across the roof. Eagle eyed viewers will notice the game is between Cuth and Col, a nod to Aldi's 'feud' with Marks and Spencer over their Cuthbert and Colin the Caterpillar cakes respectively. The teams are even decked out in Aldi and M&S' brand colours.
Decked in his warm woolly jumper, he sees an intruder at the door and panics. "Quaking in his roots, he had to make a stand. And tackle the intruder, with traps he'd carefully planned," the narrator continues.
Kevin then gets to work, swinging down to the hallway on some Christmas lights as he slams the letterbox shut with his feet. From there, he drops a water balloon over the head of the intruder from a safe distance. "Then all of a sudden, he had a bright idea, which almost dashed his hopes of seeing in New Year," the voiceover added as Kevin managed to electrocute himself on some lights.
As he headed up the stairs, he used a string to dash out of the house, expecting to catapult himself to become the nose of a snowman - but he ended up managing to fall in a very different place. Confused, the intruder looked on, puzzled by what was in front of him before he finally realised the identity of the intruder.
"Santa, thank goodness you're here," he said excitedly as his family soon ran up to him, screeching in excitement as they all ran up to him. The voiceover concluded: "But even though Kevin was a little worse for wear, he was overjoyed to have everybody there!"
For the final scene, and back in the house, Kevin apologised for stopping the Paris trip, but they remarked "at least we got to see the trifle tower", as they looked back at the festive dessert laid out on the table.
Adam Zavalis, Marketing Director at Aldi UK, said: "Christmas celebrates the joy of being with loved ones and this year more than ever we all need a bit of light entertainment as we celebrate the season together.
"And it wouldn’t be the festive season without Kevin the Carrot on our TV screens, and this year’s Yuletide performance is sure to get the nation shouting ‘KEVIN!’ as we welcome him back for the seventh year."
