Aldi to hire 3,000 new workers for Christmas in huge jobs boost - see how to apply

Aldi is to hire around 3,000 new workers ahead of the busy Christmas season.

The jobs on offer include over 2,000 temporary and permanent store positions, to help replenish stock and provide assistance to customers.

In addition, Aldi is currently recruiting for more than 850 roles across its 11 distribution centres around the UK.

Permanent roles include warehouse selectors, logistics assistants and lorry drivers.

Aldi recently raised its hourly rate for store workers. Employees earn £10.50 an hour nationally and £11.95 inside the M25.

Kelly Stokes, recruitment director at Aldi UK, said: “This year we’re recruiting more people than ever over the Christmas period to support the growing number of customers that are switching to Aldi.

“That includes a mix of temporary and permanent positions, as well as looking to fill both in-store roles and positions at our Regional Distribution Centres.

“Our amazing colleagues play a vital role in keeping our shelves stocked year-round which is why, once again, we’ll also be keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day as a thank you for all of their hard work.”

In its annual trading update, released last week, Aldi has promised shoppers it will continue to offer the lowest food prices in the UK.

The retail giant attracted an extra 1.5 million customers to its stores over the past 12 weeks as squeezed shoppers switch to the budget brand.

Aldi said more of its existing customers have changed their grocery spend and are now using it as their first and only supermarket choice.

Aldi is making record sales according to the latest data which shows 18.7% growth in sales and a market share of 9.3% – the highest at any point during its 32-year history.

It means the brand is now Britain's fourth largest supermarket, having recently overtaken Morrisons.

It came amid the lifting of pandemic restrictions and the rising cost of living which affected shopping habits.

The news from Aldi comes as Tesco confirmed it will hire 12,500 extra workers for Christmas.

Tesco is giving its staff a pay rise of 20p from November 13.

It means the hourly rate in stores will be £10.30, or £10.98 in London.
