Aldi to give surplus food to community shops

Aldi says it will give excess food to community shops across the UK. Items will be sold at discounted prices to help those in need.

The products are from the supermarket chain's network of regional distribution centres. It has extended its partnership with Company Shop Group to help redistribute surplus food that cannot be sold in its stores.

Since first collaborating in 2015, Company Shop Group has helped Aldi prevent an estimated 14,700 tonnes of food going to waste. Aldi says the new national roll out will prevent a further 2,860 tonnes of food from being wasted each year.
