Aldi shoppers slam McDonald's Chicken Selects 'dupe' as 'not worth the money'

Budget supermarket Aldi has expanded their McDonald's-inspired range with their own version of Chicken Selects - but they have left some shoppers divided.

The German grocer recently introduced four Crispy Chicken Strips with BBQ/Sweet Chili Dip into their range and they look exactly like the popular fast-food order.

Their range inspired by the famous Golden Arches hit stores across the UK last year and were immediately a hit with shoppers for "tasking exactly like McDonald's".

Priced at £2.49 for one box, the Chicken Selects 'dupe' went viral on social media after one savvy Scots shopper shared a snap of the new find - and it has started a debate over the price and what shoppers are getting for their money.

Sharing the food find to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Group on Facebook, the shopper shared how she found the Chicken Strips in the Motherwell Store.

The post read: "I’m pretty sure everyone has seen Aldi's version of McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets by now.

"However, Aldi's now has their own version of the Chicken Selects too. Nuggets are £1.69 and Strips are £2.49. Found in Motherwell ALDI."

Shoppers debated the price on Facebook (Facebook/Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK)

The post quickly racked up thousands of comments from shoppers, who felt the price was "pretty expensive" for what you actually get, especially when there are cheaper options.

On argue: "2.49 for 4 that's pretty expensive and not worth the money. You can get whole bag of same strips minus the dip for £3 in Iceland. Ripping people off with packaging basically."

"I see these the other day. But they are so expensive for how many you get. Iceland does a big bag that taste the same as selects for £3! You get about 20," agreed a second.

A third replied: "Bit dear for 4 strips though. u can buy more in Iceland or Farmfoods for that."

"They are nice but not worth the price x", commented a fourth.

"I think 4 strips for 2.49 is a bit pricey", wrote a fifth.

Despite some shoppers feeling "ripped off" by the price, the supermarket still managed to have loyal supporters who thought they were "really nice" and were "impressed with them."

The Daily Record has contacted Aldi for comment.
