Aldi has delighted shoppers with its new £15.99 alternative to Malfy's £29 Pink Grapefruit Gin after it was shared on Aldi’s Official FB page. The budget supermarket wrote: "How incredible does this Pink Grapefruit Gin look?!
"It's the perfect refreshing summer time drink to enjoy with friends... Rosa perhaps. Head in store to grab a bottle now!" Fans were quick to spot a likeness to the premium offering in the comment section.
Debbie Lorraine said: "This looks very much like my very favourite (and very expensive) Italian pink grapefruit gin. Same colour bottle as well. Less than half the price, so I think I'll have to give it a try." Lucy Proctor added: "This is a Malfy gin dupe I think."
Robert Leat put: "Tastes like Malfy gin." Hanna Hepple tagged a friend and typed: "This look nice wonder if it's like the Malfy stuff Xx." Natalie La Pierre gushed: "Pretty incredible... I'm not in the UK atm, please keep this one in stock for a bit."
Aldi's new 70cl Haysmith’s Grapefruit Gin scooped a Bronze medal at the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC). At just £15.99, shoppers can make an impressive 45 per cent saving (£13.01 per bottle) compared to Malfy’s £29 Rosa Sicilian Pink Grapefruit Gin - almost half the price.
A description of the 'dupe' reads: "Zesty, citrusy flavours of grapefruit and lemon are blended with piney aromas of juniper and bitter oranges to create a refreshingly vibrant gin.
"Simply serve with a Mediterranean tonic, plenty of ice and slices of fruit. Alternatively, add 50ml of prosecco and a sprig of thyme to transport taste buds across the Mediterranean to the Amalfi Coast."
Meanwhile, a description of Malfy's Pink Gin reads: "The Malfy Gin Rosa is a bright and refreshing flavoured gin, with a zesty and citrusy taste of pink grapefruit, and a rich, long juniper finish. Distilled in Italy, it uses some of the finest botanicals including handpicked juniper, Italian lemons, and fresh Sicilian pink grapefruit.
"This Italian gin is best served over ice with a Mediterranean tonic and a pink grapefruit wheel. Or why not enjoy a taste of the Amalfi Coast by making an Amalfi Sunset Spritz?"
