Aldi shopper speechless at cashier's reply when pensioner is £1 short

An Aldi customer was left speechless at a cashier's reply when an elderly woman was £1 short for her shopping.

The shopper, who had been in the queue behind the woman, was so moved by the interaction that she felt the need to share it online. Posting in a Facebook group for Aldi customers, she said the budget supermarket is "special".

The woman recalled how an elderly customer ahead of her had been keeping an eye on how much she was spending.

She continued: "Long story short, the amount came to over what she had and asked for certain items to be credited off. The Aldi cashier turned around and said it’s only £1 something over, I’ll pay it for you.

"When it was my turn I said what a lovely thing to do and the reply was 'we are all battling at the moment and we need to eat'. You want to know why my Aldi is special and why I go there… this is why".

Sadly, more and more of us are struggling to pay bills amid the soaring cost of inflation and record high inflation rates. With food prices also jumping up, many simply can't afford to buy everything they need at the supermarket.

Responding to the woman's post, many Facebook users have been quick to praise Aldi. One said: "Well done to all, that it kindness in itself. I do all my main shopping in Aldi, the staff are so good".

Another said: "I almost had to put back a box of cereal and something else, and the cashier said she'd pay for it. I felt awful, but at the same time it was obviously really kind of her, and helpful". A third added: "Restores your faith in humanity".
