Aldi says English wine has seen sales jump 240% in just one year. The supermarket's Winemaster’s Lot English Sparkling (£19.99, 75cl) and Specially Selected English Bacchus (£9.99, 75cl) were awarded Best Buy and Great Value accolades in a recent Which? English Wine Taste Test, beating competitor wines costing up to £18 more.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “English wine, particularly sparkling, has a reputation for being expensive, but we’re proud to be at the forefront of making it accessible for all.
Sam Caporn, Mistress of Wine, added: “English wine is an exciting, up-and-coming category. It’s increasingly being awarded the recognition it deserves, both for sparkling and still wines, and I love championing our home-grown talent.”
