Aldi's 'iconic' response to shoppers comparing £1.79 dupe to luxury beauty brand

Aldi shoppers have praised the supermarket for its 'iconic' response to a customer comparing one of its budget-friendly beauty product dupes.

A fan of the German retailer shared a photo online saying Aldi's own-brand bath soak - Lacura luxury bath float - that sells for £1.79 is just like Sanctuary Spa's version of the same name, which comes in at £12.

Twitter user Sare's Page wrote: "Just recommending this from Aldi. Bought 2 as a little treat. Boys got the moisturising one!!! It smells just like SANCTUARY!! At abt 5 times the price!!! £1.70 each!!!!!"

To which Aldi replied with: "Never heard of it x".

The quote tweet has racked up more than 10,000 likes - with many commenting on how much they love Aldi's witty responses to product comparisons.

Hundreds replied with laughing face emojis, while social media user Emily wrote: "They've got no shame".

LouLou said: "I love Aldi’s social media team" while Caitlin responded: "Iconic from Aldi".

Others agreed with the shopper, and said they can't tell the difference between the two products.

Lisa Rowan said: "I have been buying this for months I can’t tell the difference it’s amazing. But shhhhh don’t tell everyone."

Account AMC replied: "It’s banging stuff and it’s exactly the same smell as The Sanctuary."

The two bath soaks come in similar-looking orange bottles. Lacura's bath float promises 'blissful and sensuous bubbles with Vitamin E, honeysuckle extract and apricot oil.'

The Sanctuary's version is described as 'decadent clouds of sumptuous bubbles infused with baobab, vitamin E, and freesia flowers.'

It comes just months after Aldi and rival retailer Marks & Spencer settled a copyright row over the designs of the Colin the Caterpillar cake. The discount supermarket was accused of copying the cake’s design.

An agreement between the supermarkets was confirmed, but they said that no details of the deal could be released.

In April last year, M&S first launched the lawsuit against Aldi in an effort to take rival Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake off the shelves and agree to not sell anything similar in the future. But in May, Aldi started selling its caterpillar cake again after making changes to its chocolate face design.
