With colder, wetter weather setting in across the country, indoor drying season is upon us. And that could be a financial drain on many with energy bills having risen steeply during the cost-of-living crisis.
One way of saving some money could be through the use of a heated airer. These nifty gadgets look like a regular clothes airer but work much more quickly, and are cheaper to run than a tumble drier.
Some can be expensive, with the pricier branded models coming in at more than £200. But those looking for a bargain will be pleased to know Aldi's cheaper versions will soon be available for pre-order.
Aldi offers two versions of the heated airer. The three-tier airer features 20 heating tubes and a cover to help speed up drying, and costs £89.99. It is available online only and goes on sale from October 2.
Meanwhile, a more traditional-shaped folding wing airer is available for £39.99. It also features 20 heating tubes and will be available to pre-order online from October 2, or instore from October 9.
Aldi says the three-tier version is as much as £180 cheaper than similar models available elsewhere. Similar models to the winged version, meanwhile, could cost up to £69.99 in other stores, Aldi says.
The airers cost as little as 8p an hour to run, according to the Daily Mirror. With the October rise in energy prices, some models of tumble driers can cost close to £2 per cycle to run, though more efficient models will be under £1.
Aldi's heated airers sold out when they went on sale last year so are expected to go quickly again this time around. Aldi said: "Those looking for a bargain shouldn’t hang about as with all Specialbuys once they’re gone, they’re gone."
