Aldi has ridiculed a shop charging £5.39 for McVities Digestives.
A viral post on Twitter showed a packet of milk chocolate biscuits with a rather steep price tag. Households have been hit by food inflation of more than 19% because the grocery sector has faced supply chain disruption and higher commodity prices - and the impact of Russia's war on Ukraine on many staples.
Following the post about the biscuits on Twitter, people in the UK shared their outrage at the high prices. One said: "Say it out loud….unreal", while another added: "That's insane".

Budget supermarket Aldi then entered the conversation and retweeted the image. They captioned the post: "Belmont Chocolate Digestives: 69p", in reference to their low-cost biscuit alternative.
Responding to Aldi, one shopper, Charlotte Hall said: "Belmont digestives - best ever! I have little to no restraint when it comes to these."
And user @kck1965 said: "The trouble with those Belmont ones is they’re so delicious with a cup of tea it’s quite easy to go through a whole pack, I should know I’ve just did it."
There are signs food prices may be set to stabilise over the coming months, with major supermarkets starting to cut prices of everyday items such as butter and pasta in recent weeks as commodity prices begin to ease back.
