With Christmas just weeks away, if you can believe it, people will be starting to think about their menu with people taking to the internet in a bid to see where they can get the cheapest meal from.
However, it seems that one supermarket has already taken the crown when it comes to a festive feast for less after consumer finance experts at CashLady conducted research into the prices of key roast dinner ingredients from eight of the UK’s leading stores.
And shoppers will be glad to know the supermarket is budget friendly all year round.

According to their latest research, Aldi comes out top when looking at saving money whilst securing all the delicious ingredients for your Christmas dinner with essential ingredients and Christmas pudding costing £2.70 a head.
This data, which has been released by credit broker CashLady, was used to rank each from one to eight, with one being the cheapest and eight being the most expensive.
The following items were included in this investigation:
- A whole turkey
- Roast potatoes
- Carrots
- Brussel sprouts
- Red cabbage
- Gravy granules
- Stuffing
- Cranberry sauce
- Christmas pudding
For just over £24, you can buy all of the essentials for a traditional roast dinner, without making a dent in your budget. This cost covers Christmas dinner (and dessert) for 8-10 people - that’s approximately £2.71 per person.
However for those wanting to look elsewhere, M&S can pick up Christmas dinner, with the same items, for a hefty £57.84 - more than double the price of Aldi.
Those looking to Waitrose for their Christmas dinner could be expected to pay a whopping £35 more than Aldi’s customers with prices reaching £60.58 making it a pricier option.
Commenting on the findings, CashLady.com Consumer Finance Expert, Dan Whittaker said: “With Christmas 2022 being the first time that many families will be celebrating together since the pandemic, Brits across the nation will be looking forward to their roast dinner this year more than ever. As the centrepiece of the day, it will be reassuring to know that this December, you and your family can enjoy Christmas day without having to break your bank in the process.
“If you look in the right places, a delicious festive meal can be bought for as little as £24, feeding between 8 and 10 guests – even more cause for celebration!”
