Aldi launch Red Velvet cream liqueur for Valentine's and it tastes 'just like cake'

First came White Chocolate, then Salted Caramel, followed by Mint Chocolate and Clementine Cream.

Now, Aldi are releasing a brand new flavour of their Ballycastle Cream Liqueur that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day. Or should we say ‘Bally-tine’s Day’?

The German retailer - known for its budget buys and dupes - has launched the Red Velvet Cupcake Cream Liqueur, which shares a strikingly similar resemblance to Bailey’s Red Velvet Cupcake cream liqueur.

However, the Aldi version is a snip of the price, with shoppers paying around two thirds less than the original.

Ballycastle’s Red Velvet Cupcake edition is just £7.25 for a 70cl bottle, whereas Bailey’s version is priced at £21.99 - meaning shoppers can save around £15!

Made with alcohol, double cream and red velvet cake flavours, it’s sure to be a firm favourite with both sweet-toothed lovebirds and singletons alike.

The bottle is a romantic red with a shimmer to it, which looks lovely displayed on a home bar cart.

When you break the seal and breathe in from the bottleneck, there’s a whisky-like hint sweetened with chocolate.

The pink drink looks so pretty in a cocktail glass, with a rosy hue that was truly made for Valentine’s.

The creamy tipple is un-bally-vably chocolaty, smooth and tastes just like a slice of rich red velvet cake, which is sure to sweeten up date night on February 14.

To get Cupids in the mood for the romantic celebration, Aldi have also suggested a sweet chocolate cocktail you can make at home should you fancy yourself a touch of mixology.

To make their ‘I Choco-love you’ You’ll need:

  • 70ml Ballycastle Red Velvet Cupcake Cream Liqueur
  • 30ml spiced rum
  • 400ml water
  • 60g sugar
  • 60g cocoa powder

Here’s how to make it:

  1. In a small saucepan, boil 200ml of water then remove from heat and add The Pantry Cocoa Powder and sugar

  2. Stir to dissolve and then add the remaining 200ml cup of water

  3. Once cooled, add the cream liqueur and rum to the mixture and leave to infuse

  4. After both spirits have successfully infused, strain the liquid through a coffee filter to remove any fine particles and pour into a glass of your choice once you are happy with the flavour

But if you’re looking for something a bit simpler, the red velvet tipple is beautiful neat over ice, too.

The Ballycastle Red Velvet Cupcake Cream Liqueur launches both in store and online on February 6, so shoppers will have just one week to make sure they’ve got a bottle in for the big day.

To find your closest Aldi, you can use the retailer's store finder tool , where you can also find the opening and closing times of each store.

And it’s not the only product perfect for a night in on February 14 - their £14.99 chocolate fountain also makes for a fun couples activity, or how about the fondue machine - which also has 25% off.

Also released for Valentine’s Day is a dupe of the Le Creuset heart shaped cast iron dishes, which are just £34.98 for a set of three, compared to £190 for one Le Creuset version.
