Aldi issues warning to shoppers who drink semi-skimmed milk from their stores

Aldi has issued an important update to any shoppers who purchase semi-skimmed milk from their stores.

The budget supermarket is set to trial a change to its semi-skimmed milk, that will possibly be rolled out across stores in the UK, should it be successful.

According to the Daily Record, Aldi is planning to make a change to their milk, and warns customers that the milk bottle may look different.

Aldi is planning to replace the well-known green lid with a clear one in order to increase recyclability. The minor change will help with recycling as the green bottle tops on its British Semi Skimmed Standard Milk can be more difficult to repurpose.

The change will be trialled across select stores in the coming weeks. This news will come amid the supermarkets aim to have at least 50 per cent of its plastic packaging to be made from recycled materials by 2025.

The trial will be based across Cheshire, Manchester and Liverpool over the next month. If successful, the rest of the UK stores will also see the change.

The trial is being carried out in partnership with milk supplier Müller. If successful and rolled out to all Müller-supplied stores, an additional 60 tonnes per year of recycled High-Density Polythene (rHDPE) could be turned back into food-grade packaging.

Richard Gorman, Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, said: “We know it’s becoming increasingly important to our customers that their everyday products are environmentally-friendly, and we are constantly reviewing ways to become a more sustainable supermarket.

"By trialling clear milk caps we are making our milk bottles easier to recycle, so they can be turned back into new packaging.”
