The self checkouts at supermarkets are a blessing and a curse. If you're tech savvy, it can speed up the process massively, but a lot of the time you can end up stuck there for ages trying to find all the barcodes on every single item.
Luckily, one Aldi shopper has shared a very simple hack that can make your life so much easier if you're in a rush.
Grocery shopping can be stressful, but the anonymous shopper's tip can save you a lot of time while ringing up the items in your cart.
Sharing their "pro tip" on Reddit, the social media user explained: "Spread out everything in a single layer in your cart with the bar codes facing up. Then use the handheld scanner gun to zip-zip-beep-beep through everything with lightning speed."
There are many benefits to this, according to the savvy shopper, who said it means your items don't have to "leave the cart unless you have something that must be weighed, and you never hear the robot voice prompt!".
However, they added that this only works if you don't fill up your trolley with goods. They said: "As you can see this only works for people who don't buy a whole lot of stuff. I don't have a plan yet for people who fill an entire cart!"
Keep in mind this hack only works if there is a scanning gun at your local supermarket, and the items don't have to be placed on a scale to be weighed.
One person said: "All the self checkouts I've used requires the item to be bagged and put on the scale platform. I've not used a self checkout at Aldi yet."
Another asked: "Can you scan them all in the buggy or do all the items have to be placed on the check out scale/area? This would be way faster if I could just use the check out gun scanner thingy."
Another user replied: "They do not need to be placed in the little area, it is not a scale. Source: I work there and just got self checkout."
