Budget supermarket chain Aldi has found itself in hot water with shoppers who have complained about its bank holiday opening hours.
The retailer has come under fire after explaining what times it will be opening and closing over the Jubilee bank holiday .
Posting on social media, Aldi confirmed that store opening times will remain the same for the duration of the bank holiday.
Meanwhile, Tesco and Asda have both altered Superstore opening hours to close at 8pm instead of 12am on bank holiday Thursday and Friday to allow staff to celebrate the Jubilee.
Lidl and Sainsbury's stores will be closing at 8pm instead of 10pm on these days.
Morrisons stores will be closing at 10pm as usual.
Aldi's post read: "We're open for the Jubilee Celebration! Make sure you head down to get all your essentials for the weekend! Our normal opening hours will remain in place this bank holiday weekend."
Shoppers quickly found an issue with the update, though, and blasted Aldi for not closing stores to give staff a break and the chance to enjoy the Jubilee with family.
Some posters did not hold back.
Eleanor Keyes said, according to the , the Manchester Evening News : "Shame for the staff… not even bank holiday hours. Shame on you… hope it’s double time and a day in lieu."
Tracey Cowan wrote: "How lovely would it be for people to get organised and do their food shop on the Wednesday so shops could close for 2 days so staff could join in with the celebrations."
Louise McLean wrote: "Aw give your staff some time off! Misery guts."
Julie Edwards simply wrote: "Sad."
Some shoppers did, however, point out that not everybody cares about the Jubilee, and that some people are always forced to work bank holidays.
Angharad Jayne Walker pointed out: "Love everyone saying for them to close and give their staff the bank holiday off. They aren't the only ones working it. I work every bank holiday and don't get extra pay for it."
An Aldi spokesperson told Manchester Evening News: “All Aldi colleagues working over the bank holiday will get time off in lieu. We are very grateful to everyone at Aldi who is working this weekend to help our customers get everything they need to celebrate the Jubilee."
