Supermarket giant Aldi has lost a court battle against Marks and Spencer (M&S), and as a result, could be forced to remove one of its most popular Special Buys from shelves. Aldi is well known for its dupes, and has become a staple with shoppers looking for cheaper versions of more expensive, branded items.
However, M&S took issue with Aldi's own-brand versions of light up gin snow globes, and accused the retailer of 'copying' them. The case was then taken to the High Court.
The High Court ruled that Aldi infringed the design of its rival’s product, in a major blow to the German discounter, which had denied the accusations. The ruling could mean Aldi having to pay damages to M&S or pass on profits from sales of the product. Aldi has said it will appeal against the judgment.
