Bosses at Aldi have confirmed when a new store off the A612 Colwick Loop Road will open. The 19,570 sq ft supermarket is set to open this summer at Teal Park, between Stoke Bardolph and Netherfield.
And it's been confirmed that the new Aldi will open on Thursday, August 11, at 8am. To celebrate the new partnership between Aldi and ParalympicsGB, the team will be joined by ParalympicsGB gold medallist Richard Whitehead, who will cut the ribbon on opening morning. Aldi has sponsored Team GB since 2015 and has been providing athletes from the ParalympicsGB with monthly food vouchers.
Mr Whitehead, who lives in Burton Joyce, will be giving away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue. Mr Whitehead added: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of ParalympicsGB.”

Aldi Store Manager Stuart Levick said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Netherfield. It’s set to be a special day and having Paralympic hero Richard Whitehead join us will make it a morning to remember.” The new store has recruited a team of 38 new staff members who are all from the local community. The new store has been expected to create 125 jobs in total.
Back in January last year details about the proposed store came to light, when detailed plans were tabled for a local centre at Teal Park and developers confirmed Aldi had agreed to be the 'anchor' within it. It was proposed for the centre to include an additional four shops, a children's day nursery and pub. Plans for the new supermarket were passed by Gedling Borough Council in May last year.
Teal Park, where the likes of Toolstation, Screwfix and Howdens have opened, is next to the vast Rivendell housing estate, near the Victoria Retail Park. The housing development has been described as a 'mini-city' by a council leader and more than 800 properties are expected to be built in total. The estate has been named Rivendell as a nod to the area's link with the Lord of the Rings.
After plans for the Aldi were approved, neighbours on the new estate said there were already a number of supermarkets in the area - and that a pub down the road from the new houses would be a good addition.
