Aldi car park closed as car crashes into supermarket window

People are being asked to avoid an Aldi carpark after a car crashed into a supermarket window.

Merseyside Police were called to Aldi on Smithdown Road at 3.35pm on Wednesday, September 21 following reports of a crash. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a grey Nissan Primera had reversed through a number of metal bollards and into a trolley storage structure outside.

Police have confirmed a man in his 20s, who was walking around the supermarket at the time, has injured his leg during the incident. The man driving the car is not believed to be injured.

The North West Ambulance Service is now at the scene to treat the man in his 20s for his injuries. It is not clear how serious the man's injuries are.

An eyewitness told The ECHO they were walking walking past the supermarket when the car crashed. She said: "I was just walking to Aldi and I was shocked when I heard this loud bang and crashing sound. When I came over I saw the car had crashed into the front window of the supermarket.

"People had gathered around and I thought the young lad had narrowly missed the car, paramedics are here now."

Merseyside Police are now urging people to stay away from Aldi's car park or park in another location while the vehicle is recovered.
